A good 24-70mm f/2.8 lens is often worth its weight in gold, and unfortunately, they often cost about that much too. Luckily, in the last few years, we have seen a real influx of much more affordable third-party options from companies like Tamron and Samyang. This excellent video comparison takes a look at two such options, the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 and Samyang 24-70mm f/2.8 AF.

While the difference between 70mm and 75mm at the telephoto end is essentially negligible, you should consider carefully the difference between 24mm and 28mm. Although only a difference of 4mm, because both are wide angle focal lengths, the gap between the two is rather significant, and if you are used to having 24mm available to you, you might find a lens that bottoms out at 28mm rather restrictive, especially if you often work in tight spaces. Nonetheless, they are both impressive performers, particularly for their respective prices, which are significantly less than comparable first-party options. Check out the video above for Trotti’s full thoughts on both lenses.
