The pin-up model was one of the most iconic styles of the 20th century, and even today, decades after its heyday, it is still a very recognizable and eye-catching look that makes for great portraits. Coming to you from Lindsay Adler Photography, this excellent video tutorial will show you how this vintage nude pin-up portrait was created, lit, and photographed. As Adler details in the video, fine art nudes focus on the human form, and as such, she aims for a straightforward but elegant look to the lighting, using two strobes for the backdrop, a Westcott Optical Spot on the key light, and a medium umbrella with diffusion to provide some fill to soften some of the shadows. As you will see, while that gets Adler an excellent foundation, it takes a bit more work in post to fully finish the vintage look, which includes desaturating the image a bit, adding some warmth, and doing some local cleanup.
