No matter the genre you shoot, the world we live in often demands content churned out at a breakneck pace, and our attention spans are accordingly attuned to that speed. That can be a mistake that stops us from bringing home our best images. This excellent video essay discusses the importance of slowing down (quite a bit) and why it can bring you better photos. 

Coming to you from Michael Shainblum, this great video demonstrates the importance of slowing down and really working a scene before moving on (and though it is directed at landscape photographers, the lesson really applies to all genres). We often want to produce as much content as possible, especially to keep up with the pace of things like social media, but on the other hand, taking the time to really digest a scene, get to know your subject, experiment with your lights, fine-tune a composition, etc. can be the difference between an adequate image and a truly compelling photo, and it is in this time that you often find and strengthen your creative voice.
