Autodesk Maya 2013 Tutorial – Tree Modeling and Texturing Part 1. In this video I go over the modeling process of a tree. I show how to model using curves and extrusions as well as making sure to have good working UV’s. I go over the overall process of tree making in autodesk maya 2013 version.

Thanks so much for this. My trees look great now π
Nothing worked for me, when i draw the cv curves i get a completely different result and it creates weird shapes. What am i doing wrong here?
a very informative video that describes the process very efficiently.
I also just realized that this method can also be used to make tubes and wires in machines. thank you.
THIS is so cool!! Please check out my videos as well, although it is just some clay π β¦ You have earned another new subscriber π
great tutorial!
your tutorial was awesome.
the way you explained in detail with every tool is brilliant.
THANKS A LOT…….!
For some reason my branches won't snap to the base of the tree even after I make it live. :S
After extrude, why my polygon turn black π
Check out this amazing cherry tree bundle

It doesnt work in UDK4… i can look through the branches…. lol
Thanks so much, great help for a project I'm in the process of creating
Wow! Every video with Maya tutorials I've found I've always had problems, usually with options I have unchecked/checked they never named, but you really cover everything. Probably the clearest Maya tutorials out there.
I usually only subscribe to gaming and music channels on my YT, but you just deserve it. Although to be completely fair I'm probably just making this comment to get a diversion from my schoolwork. π
Thank you so much! Your steps are easy and clear to follow!
Why not use a tree generation tool like arbaro to get the base trunk and branches and just ignore the leafs. You can always continue the normal way like you do afterwards.
thanks!! really helpful video!!
I am a games development student in the UK and i used your videos to pass college and get into university so thank you 3dEx you relay helped me.
Dude! excelent video i was in a hurry and this video totally saved me, Thank you very much
Thank you very much !!! (β’.<)
This is a superb tutorial! Thank you very much! π But I am wondering, what is the best render settings for this one? If you wanted to save this as JPG, but the realism and depth is still there? π Thanks. π
wow, that is crazy. thanks for subscribing.
Hahah i was your 10k sub but props to you, you have really good tutorials and i mean it!
After creating it you can still change the number of sections for it. The options are in the channel box area. Click on the word nurbstesselation and there is an option there to increase the sections, I can't remember the exact name, but if you start changing some of the numbers there you will see the model change at the same time. Hope this helps.
Irvin i have a question, when i extrude the circle in minute 4:29 my new poly have only 3 sections, yours have 5, i've tried to increment the number of sections on the extrude options but there's no way to do it.
P.D: My circle have 5 sections
Thank you. very well done. 100 thumbs up. π
I started with a nurbs curves, but then when I created the extruded surface I made sure(in the extrude options box) to change the outcome from nurbs to polygon quads. If you have a nurbs object you can still convert it to polygons; just select the object and go to modify-> convert-> nurbs to polygon. After that the uv part should work fine. If you have no uv's you may have to redo the extrude( this time polygons) because it will be more painful to create the uv's from scratch.
Hi, thanks for the tutorials, but I have a question
When go to the UV texture editor. there is nothing there
I started with a NURB, like you said, and now I see you are editing polygons with the branches, how did this happened? Sorry for being such a noob, thanks again!
to see the texture in the view-port hit 6 on your keyboard.
How do I get the texture to be seen in the preview? Please help
How much is META-Elements? Also, it is only available for windows…and SpeedTree costs $5,000. I like your shameless promotion of yourself though.
Some time ago I was working on a video game project .. and I have never though that you can do it jut this way without any 3D generator tool. Have to remodel trees few times for performance reasons also we've changed way they were animated.
Thank you so much! Great tutorial for beginner! Keep up the good work
Yes, I am aware of those programs. I wanted to show how to make them manually instead of just using a tree making program. Anyways this is basically the way the tree making program does it only difference is that it does all the work for you.
not really, no.
BRO!! you sound like my classmate i know in school….i am just curious, do you go to MIU/
Thanks man, that helped out a lot. I was trying to figure that out for a while. It was really weird watching all these videos and then getting stuck at something like that. Thanks again. Great Videos!
might be because soft selection is enabled. Does the object turn red.yellow when selecting edges, verts, faces? If that is the case it means soft selection is enabled, just press b to disable it.
Awesome Video, there is only question that I have, I have not been able to figure this out or find a solution in anyones video. When you were moving the edges or resizing them only one edge moved, when i do it the edge seems to drag the whole object in one direction or if i resize it it seems to resize the main edge the most but other edges also instead of just the one. What am I missing or doing wrong?
I am not really experienced with particle systems so I am probably not the best person to make a video on that, there's probably many videos on particles on youtube. Good luck
can you make a vid on particle systems?
if you want the objects to appear in the center. just disable interactive creation. The option is under the same menu where you create the object primitives. Is the second to last option in the menu, just disable it.
