Let’s compare Blender 2.79 Cycles and Blender 2.8 Render Speeds! While we know that Blender 2.8 is not finished, we can at least take a look at how the project is going and maybe see whats in store!

No mentioning of rendering dimensions whatsoever, pro.
So its 25% faster!
do an eevee vs cycles comparison, performance wise
THIS WITH ONE OTEHR RANDOMLY POPED UP AND I WAS LIKE WUT IS DAT
This is almost entirely because of the new Russian roulette path termination.. Which is in master and you can get it with buildbot now. Almost all cycles improvements you can get now on the build bot in 2.79

Keep in mind, the video recording is also affecting the performance measurements.
Are you using the GPU to render in 2.8? Because it's not showing a GPU under the "Render" setting. I have the same problem with 2.8 and can't find any way to enable GPU rendering…
man just quit
Excelent
We can all help make blender 2.8 a reality

THAT DOG IS SO CUTE
Nice
Also you can render with GPU+CPU at the same time in 2.8, so this will give some speed boosts too depending on your CPU. Just select your CPU in the CUDA devise option in the User Prefferences, keep GPU as device and set the tile size to 32×32. They also optimized CUDA rendering for smaller tile sizes, so this won't slow it down.
Interesting, I would have guessed 2.8 Cycles would been a little faster. But I was more curious about rendering in EEVEE vs. rendering in Cycles. You have to click the camera icon in the bottom header (I think) to render in EEVEE. Watch here from about the 55 seconds mark (https://youtu.be/r0J3pvl6I4M?t=55s).
