This is the first part of a two part tutorial showing how to make a model of a spoon.

In the first part an outline of a spoon is drawn in edit mode, using the mirror modifier to take advantage of a spoon’s symmetry.

Key Points
Start with a mesh object, for example a cube.
Go into edit mode, select all the vertices and delete them.
In the properties window click the Modifiers button and add the Mirror modifier.
Change the shader for the 3D window to Wireframe.
Draw the outline of the spoon by adding vertices, CTRL and left mouse button (right mouse button if you select with the left).
Apply the Mirror modifier by going into Object mode and clicking the Apply button.
Go back into Edit mode and join the two halves, select the vertices and create edges.
Select and fill the spoon outline, A to select all, ALT and F to fill.
Mesh menu, Faces and Tris to Quads to convert triangular faces to quads.
Delete and add edges to make the filled spoon shape symmetrical, adding faces where necessary.
