In Blender version 2.64 a new ‘Skin’ modifier was added. This tutorial shows how to make a rigged model of a stick man using the new modifier. It actually takes just over four minutes in the tutorial to make the model.

Thanks as always for the excellent and clear tutorials!
I just made this today and animated it to wave…. having the same problem with the right leg but will look at it tomorrow
Thanks for the superb and simple stickman 🙂
I am facing a number of problems:
there is a rendering glitch where it appears that the arms and up are separated from the torso and below
when I create an armature it doesn't mirror
when I try to pose it, the left side of the character bends out of proportion at the slightest movement of a bone.
What to do to grab
I Love your tutorials. Thanks.
can you please help? I made the figure step by step, but it won't let me move the right leg. I think its because there was a orange circle around it as you had one in the stomach area. I don't know how to fix this so please help
Great and concise tutorial !
Great tutorial! It seems like it has gotten a bit more "user friendly". I can recall the first time I came across blender it took nearly two days to make a terrible looking snowman…lol
Lovely tutorial; I've subscribed. A little healthy criticism would be to explain why u the steps instead of just showing us, other than that this video is awesome : ). Thanks for sharing; Jesus Christ Bless : )
Awesome tutorial! You helped a lot. Your tutorials are by far the best blender tutorials!
its so greit
Also, is there a way to add clothing and a head and other such things to a stick figure model model made in Blender?
Nice tutorial, but you're damn fast…
Oh, this tutorial is a real life saver. Thank You, thank You!
I want to happy-cry now after seeing this. Thank you for existing. I am excruciatingly stupid for all blender-related stuff and you just saved my everything 🙂 I am more of a Unity coding type, not modeling… One to the Sun and back THANK YOU MATE : ) This was the best spoon-feed I have ever seen and just something I need 🙂 Thank you :')))))))
this thing took me 2 weeks to figure out myself >.<
Thank you so much for this very basic tutorial. I want to design indie games with Clickteam Fusion 2 and the Unreal Engine and this will help me to get set in the direction I want to head in.
I've followed the tutorial as best as I can, because I'm very new to blender. But whenever I try and use the skin modifier on the vertices, it creates this weird 3D shape around the stick man that looks nothing like what you get.
im doing awesome at building the stickman 🙂
Hi.. only the right leg won't move with me,,, I can see its missing the small dot at the end of the leg,,I thought I went step by step like you .. I'm not sure is it an option I have to enable or I missed a step
otherwise, it looks good 🙂
WOOP WOOP XD
aplaudestrue 😀
it will take me for ever to figure out how to work it lol.
eh at least it will be fun xp
thx the video helped but still i have no idea how to do anything on it lol
i can't add a vertex for some reason
I'm using 2.76, and for some reason, when I tried positioning the top bone of the right leg, the top bone AND the rest of the stick figure (except the bottom bone) rotated. The problem doesn't occur with the same bone on the left side. Did I mess up somewhere? How do I stop this from happening?
Thanks for taking the time to make such informative video's. Your method is very precise, clear and well thought out.
This isn't working for some reason…
Very straightforward and great for beginners.
Thanks!
what did you say at 4:19 and do something so we can see what you are tryping or just talk better cause you fucked the hole video up and i cant do shit now so do something
CAN YOU MAKE THE SAME VIDEO BUT WITH HIGHER VERSION OF BLENDER PLEASE MY BLENDER IS NOT THE SAME VERSION MY VERSION IS 2.72B
IM SURE NONE OF THIS PEOPLE HAVE THE OLD ONE DUDE SO PLEASE DO IT WITH HIGHER VERSION
I've tried to do this several times. Following the instructions. Making sure I don't miss anything. I'm using version 2.7. In pose mode 2 armatures are being created. They are 2 haves with a double set of lines in the middle. If i grab a bone that is in the body and move it the stick figure splits in half on the y axis where am I going wrong. I've tried this several times and can't figure it out.
Thank you very much man. this was an awesome tutorial helped me out a lot. Now i can go show my dad my waving man and confuse the hell out of him as to how i did it. XD
That was not a bad video, but I tried an animation and it did not work,I used lotrot keys, what going on?
For blender 2.70 I had to bump up the Branch Smoothing for the Skin modifier to get the pelvis to look correct. Before doing that it was messed up. I used a value of 0.016.
Just what I needed. I was looking for a stick figure to demonstrate some muscle stretching exercises. Thanks!
Thanks dude
Can you do it with blender v2.69 ?
How do you do the first par? I am trying to use a stick bone to make that part but it does not work.
