Blender version used 2.67, download the file traced in the tutorial and the finished Blender file from my website —

This tutorial shows how to make a Batman logo using Bezier curves. Bezier curves are fundamental to vector graphics and Blender supports their use to create 2D and 3D shapes.
The Batman logo is created by tracing an existing logo but once created it is very easy to modify to make a new variation.
The tutorial shows how to make the logo into a 3D shape and into a 2D bitmap image.
The tutorial also has a quick look at the new Freestyle system that is designed for creating 2D drawings from 3D models but can be used with a 2D logo to take advantage of stylized lines; illustrating that Blender has the capability to create 2D vector graphics (and with the timeline, 2D vector animations).

You rock!! Thanks for making this video 🙂
My bevel is flipped the wrong way around (with the opening of the C shape facing the outside instead of the inside) and when I select 2D it does not fill. I state both of these because I feel they may be related, but ultimately my end goal is just to fill the shape. Any advice?
very good.
How do I solidify the curve once i'm done bending it? I can't rotate the piece without it distorting.
on macbook, i lose my bat every time i zoom with the trackpad (maybe i just shouldn't do this but i can't help myself). i can't get it back even after redoing the perspective-top. what gives?
Thank you Ian, I learned how to pan in your video.
PS. My name is also Ian.
Thanks a lot…
Thank you so much! This is so useful for my project!
blender is cool. But tracing using curve is pain in the a*s. Seriously this is to slow. I don't understand why this method is not being upgraded. If you look at any other app, look how fast you can trace image using the curve.
and here I am 6 years later saying thank you very much for such a good tutorial
thank you sir about your tutorials
Thank u sir
Awesome teaching style. Smooth and thorough in each detail. Easy to follow and learn. The best!
Very helpful thank you
Thanks for this tutorial. This helped me to get used to the curves in Blender. Was only used to the spines in 3DS Max and Cinema 4D.
Excellent, just what I needed, thank you Ian Scott for another excellent tutorial!
nice tutorial.
My Bezier curve is turning into a straight line when turning it into 3d. Anyone have an idea why?
How Do U Import batman logo And Edit Its Variation
Thank you very much!!! My dear teacher! One day if you plan to visit Hong Kong, please contact me!
genio!
Your way of teaching is so good. So can you please do a tutorial on car modeling from blue prints
great and nice explanation
I don't subscribe to many people. I am impressed that you knew the correct way to use Bezier curves.
Thanks!
APPRECIABLE TUTORIAL!!!
AMAZING JOB.
Thank you so much, I'm practicing step by step and I don't know how to extrude the object in Object mode, I'm using version 2.78. Please kindly advise.
Very Very helpful! Thank you.
Great tutorial, thank you.
Dear sir! Thank you so much! It was just actualy what I need! Separately, thank you for how well, clearly and understandably do you explain! Hugest respect and so many thanks!
Thanks for sharing
Good Teaching, thanks
Salutations from France
wow its very nice
Thanks my friend, this is a good tutorial, exactly the right speed, show us the menu items, panel buttons and shortkeys step by step, not "hupdidupthereisit" shit pressing 20 keys a second like playing a Steve Morse Guitar Solo!
I liked the video. Was snapping the points to the gridline an optimization in building the Batman logo or should I be trying to keep my control points on gridlines in the general case? I'll check out your other videos in case you mention it elsewhere. Thanks again.
Does Grease Pencil have any Bezier tool? If so, is there any way to switch on the handles on vertices?
Awesome!
I dont know how updated this is, but. E = Makes a new absolutely monstrous sized line, and it cannot be resized. G = creates a second line, but locks itself to the point making a loop. I would say help but I cant stand blender.
i dont have add option
Just the very tutorial that I have been looking for for a long time. Thank you for the video tutorial.
Thank you very much for this descriptive tutorial
Dang, I have been through a few tutorials on this subject, and all of them assumed I knew the first thing about Blender, but failed to point out that prior knowledge was needed. Needless to say, I wasted valuable time with them and learned absolutely nothing. Hell some of them even point to functions no where to be found, so I can only assume that they left out one or more steps…
Your style of teaching must be commended, and I thank you! I am a very smart person, but still, when treading in unfamiliar territory trying to get through a tutorial that starts in the middle of nowhere is impossible, and most tutorial authors should follow your lead.
Because of this tutorial I not only received insight on exactly what I was trying to accomplish, but because you took your time, and showed the menus… It explained some other stuff I also had questions about, as well as pointed me to other stuff to explore
This tutorial is brilliant in it's simplicity!
Thank you for this tutorial! I learned some key points here!
Your voice reminds me of Iwan Rheon's Ramsay Snow from Game of Thrones.
how long have you done blender
