  1. So I've been watching back and forth between Andrew's Blender Render version and CG Geek's Cycles version. I use cycles but I like Andrew's explosion way more so I've been trying my best to follow similar steps and whatnot. I'm at the point where I'm SUPER frustrated because when I try the CG Geek's version of node setup in the explosion's smoke and fire volume nodes, the color of the fire doesn't appear at all. I'm able to fiddle around with the nodes so that the smoke color changes but I can't find any way of getting the firey effect right. CG Geek's video kinda cheats and uses "Smoke + Fire" in "Flow Type:" to get the color of the flames while Andrew only uses pure smoke. What's the updated Blender Guru way of getting the fire to show up with color in Cycles?? If anyone could help that'd be great T___T

  2. Andrew, since it's been 5 years since you did this video, think you could possibly update it? With all of the changes in Blender (plus the fact that it took me 16 minutes to notice you were using blender render lol), I think it could make a really good tutorial.

  3. why when i go to the materiel setting after making the texture and i click on the " Type of preview render" (Flat) no thing is appearing plz help cause also when i render this am not having the smoke just my object plz any help

  4. I have a suggestion, the shock wave must have some waves, and noise and volumetric scattering to make it more natural. It's an old video probably you can focus on how to make the old videos better, as you have made lots of them, and at some point maybe you can organize a little bit after 5 years time. Anyway thanks to you i have now a better idea about blender, as i thought it's a crap previously. Why? The handling is alien from any system, what i have used. (not just modelling) selection should be left mouse click and drag, middle mouse is just not that handy, the 3D cursor most of the time as not that import to use. Right click on the screen should go to the popup menu, and if you are in object mode not edit mode, the mouse drag should be the screen rotation i think. I like your video anyway, you have some sort of very good teaching talent. You are focusing what it matters, and making fast what does not. Congratulation for that, i haven't met even one university teacher that do the same. Also your story telling has got lots of visualization, so it would help a lot, and other stuff might not that intense on it.

  5. Thanks to this tutorial I have a nice-looking plume/mushroom cloud in the preview, but it doesn't actually render anything but the particle system's icosphere with Blender selected as the engine, and only a backdrop renders with Cycles as engine, in Blender 2.73. I'm investigating some possibilities on fixing it…

  6. stuck ad 7.15 When i click Add under smoke Then flow i get Flow source mesh Were you have particle system .If i change to particel system theres no smoke Is this to do with blender 2.70

  7. interesting thing happens when i try to render..the flames dont show up. Also, in regards to the light casting on the scene, what i did was went into each flow item, selected the particle tab, found the render section and changed the tab to 'object' and merely parented the lamp to the 'Dupli Object'; so when the particles are created they also create a lamp effect on each particle during animation and cast a light on any object.
