*I’ve created a new and improved couch tutorial here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ziU6x8Ytd3Q

In this video I’ll show you how to make a realistic fabric couch in blender.

The fabric texture we use can be found here:

  1. You probably know this by now, but for anyone watching this video 3 years in the future, when light that passes through something like colored glass, the 'colored shadow' is caustics. At least that's what I have been told. Thanks for the video though! Found it very helpful

  2. Hey Tyler, Thank you for this amazing tutorial, I watched the second one as well. I really enjoyed them both and I'm confident that I'll be able to make a couch, pillows and beds now look realistic! ๐Ÿ™‚ I wish you continued making tutorials, as I see that a year ago you stopped making them, as your a really amazing teacher. Thank you Tyler for the videos and helping me become a better 3D modeler!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. no need to apologize, just speak out, its only a problem when people jump over words or syllables, we rather hear a "long" "slow" word than something we can't understand. ๐Ÿ™‚ i like this couch too because this and the other are different textures. you have a great way to explain things that are exactly what one is wondering as abeginner. cheers

  4. Well, I finished tutorial. Cool, I'm really did not know that there is possible set render box. Really useful when you got big scene with a lot high poly objects, and you are setting up material of one object in scene. Especially on low performance computers BTW, in 2.73 hotkey is ctrl+B)ย
    I will check other tutorials.

  5. Don't be confused. In unwrapping, when you have already pressed unwrap, blender saves all configures of UV, so if you will unwrap without seams again, nothing will happen. There is button reset. It shows what will happen if You will unwrap without seams. And this non-uniform scale. ๐Ÿ˜€ This crap message happens if you are unwrapping object with x,y or z scale less or more then 1. In object mode press Ctrl + A to reset Scale. I don't know if it really need)))) And thanks. Lesson is really helpful))

  6. I already have a bit of experience with blender, but haven't really done arcitecture yet. Done nature stuff so far: http://kerranor.deviantart.com/
The modelling part (part one was really good for me. For the second i have to criticise, that the UV maps are not that good, because your squares are not that even. With a texture, that doesn't have big patterns that is ok but with bigger patterns it really looks wierd then. I corrected mine to be more even(takes a long time, though).
Also, what is the sense of the mapping node after the image texture?
A little tip: If you use normal- and specular maps, you will get a lot more realistic looking result!(there are many tuts on that stuff) I find this one quite good:ย The Secrets of Realistic Texturing in Blender
And Caustics is used with glossy/glass shaders, wich effects the lighting of the sourounding objects with the light that shines on the glossy/glass material. Like if light shines into a mirror, something that is infront of the mirror will be a bit brighter(Hope you understand what i mean). But overall the tut is good! Keep up the tuts and maybe you'll even ย get better by doing them ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. First I want to thank you for making videos teaching how to use Blender. So, thank you. ๐Ÿ˜€
Next, I'm glad that you asked for suggestions. I think it depends on what level of experience you are making videos to address. I find that there are lots of good videos for intermediate level students but not so many for beginners. I'm a beginner so the intermediate level videos are a little bit of a challenge for me.
For me the main difference between a video for beginners and a video for intermediate skill is the amount of time listing the keystrokes aloud. So I have found two channels that make good videos for beginners. In both cases they always say what keys they are pressing along with the function. One channel will say things like "gee grab" and "ee extrude". The other channel always says things like "gee to grab" and "ee to extrude". These help me a lot.
Of course having screencast on is a big help as well. I hope that my comment helps you to decide how you want to make videos and for what skill level. ย I hope that you decide to make videos for beginners like me. ย ๐Ÿ˜€
