I don't think blender is hard to learn. I picked up blender for the first time 6 days ago from writing this post and I already have been modeled a few complex shapes, rigging and basic animating. It is the plethora of youtube videos that makes learning it so easy.
I had never used a 3d program before Blender and picked it up pretty well within a few months. It was just for fun to pass time, but as I'm getting a little more serious about it, I keep finding more and more awesome things it can do. Blender is really really cool (:
For EVERYONE watching this video in 2019: Blender 2.80 is comming with UI and Eevee (new "real-time" renderer) being the biggest and obvious changes. Still no tutorial, but still better.
Been using Maya for 10 years and checking blender ever couple of years….. Blender 2.8 is amazing to use so far. I will definitely be learning blender this year daily. This is because blender devs have finally fixed the user interface. It's still a little clunky to learn but coming from Maya where I know all the lingo and technical terms it's not too bad. And I even think there is real potential to work faster in Blender than I could in Maya for many workflows which is saying something because the Maya interface is incredible.
If you wana learn it, really want to, you will, its got an awesome online community.. But if you're just trying out 3D modelling as a beginner, I would try something easier like !!!MAYA!!! Yea I know Maya is cutting edge therefor hard, but Blender is so weird, it will give you a bad taste towards 3D UIs

I have a very, very long way to go, but what I've learned of Blender was totally based on online tutorials (YouTube mostly). It was rough going at first. But, as you said 3D software is inherently difficult.
Now in a price war (especially for those of us with limited funds) absolutely nothing beats free. I figure the steep learning curve is the price we pay.
almost all blender tutorials on youtube has nothing to do with showing you the way to master blender, they make sure you don't learn quickly by not showing you what shortcuts they are using, you keep watching the tutorial and saying WTF just happened, you started with a Cube now here's a fully detailed Katana !

Autodesk Maya is so much easier to learn, but Blender has got a very good render
By my side, I think that blender is more esier to learn for any logical man on the Earth. Blender is simply the best in ourdays.
The Blender UI is the best thing about it….
The autodesk product use the same broken UI and people have just accepted it.

Why would you compare After effects or even Photoshop to a 3D modeling program. It should at least be compared to Maya or 3ds MAX, let alone Houdini.

blender is sh!t. been watching unguided tutorials on youtube like tv.
I started learning blender with 2.8 and I can say they UI is really good. I don't know how hard it used to be to learn blender but it wasn't that hard for me
Out of date video. The new Blender v2.80 has a much more intuitive UI.

claro está que esta crítica solo la hace alguien que le gustan las cosas fáciles, alguien que a pesar de considerarse profesional…. solo es eso… su consideración… si un "torpe" como yo ha sido capaz de comprender y utilizar Blender para hacer multitud de cosas (y no hago más por que no tengo un buen ordenador)….. y tu estás comentando que no eres capaz de hacer algo tan simple como encontrar el conjunto de ventanas para cada propósito, el modelado, el render, el texturizado, el mapeado…. entonces me demuestras que te gustan solo las cosas fáciles…. señor…. Blender cuenta con todo lo que muchos otros programas quisieran poder tener en su interfaz…. ningún otro programa te presta todos los servicios al completo como lo hace Blender, además… cuenta con preajustes en los que es posible pasar directamente del modo edición al de modelado o al de texturizado con solo unos atajos de teclado sencillos… y cualquier herramienta que necesites la tiene…. cualquiera…. lo que otros programas están ofreciendo es que compres cosas continuamente para que su software vacio de herramientas sea potente, pero si no lo comparas lo único que tienes es un montón de chatarra… en Blender eso no sucede… si algo falta, va alguien crea el add-on adecuado y lo ofrece de manera gratuita a la comunidad, muy pocos no lo hacen de esa manera, a pesar de que los hay, pero el 90% son totalmente gratis… para lo que se necesite, son cientos de add-on gratuitos los que están disponibles… eso no lo ofrece ningún otro software de diseño de modelos y animación

Blender is hard because everything is hidden under 10×10 px icons and small text.
Simply want to add a texture to your cube ? Well it’s not that easy because you have to click on every single button on your screen until you find the texture menu.
And when you finally found it and managed to locate the “add” button, then you select your image and you still have to figure out how to put it on the cube !
Dude I gave up, just drag and dropped my image file to my cube from outside Blender, and IT WORKED.
now the 2.8 ui is make blender more easy to use
I began learning 3D (briefly) with Blender. I found it extremely difficult to learn and understand. When I went to uni I learned 3Ds Max. What I've realised since is that it's not Blender that's hard to learn, it's 3D modelling and animation in general (at both a practical and more importantly conceptual level) that's hard to learn. It's tough, but you get there, with time and practice. You often see the same thing with people when it comes to using something like Adobe After Effects for the first time. This was true for me, it took me ages to grasp the core concepts of motion graphics.
These things take time, and I gotta say, that's half the fun, at least for me.
I understood the stretchable window concept within a minute of discovering it existed. It's not that weird, imo.
This learning barrier is probably for the best.
Can you imagine if Blender gains enough audience where a company like Autodesk (or Adobe) would have to claim??
I feel the only issue with most people is time and patience.
Blender + Mac is even harder, it is very irritating in my case.
