Instead of setting a timer, If my camera is on a tripod and I enable touch shutter… could that also be a good option for eliminating camera shake?

The ONLY question I have is do you need a special lens for this or is a 18-55mm decent enough? Just got a Nikon d3100 and I'm catching on quick with manual mode but I suck ass when it comes to knowing what lenses to use, please help this noobie out haha
