## Maya 2014 tutorial : Modeling to scale using exact measurements

https://i.ytimg.com/vi/iAsklp6ores/hqdefault.jpg

Maya has a tool to measure the exact distance between two points in Maya. This tool will help you to model to scale. In this tutorial I will also explain where you can change your measurement setting to centimeters, inches etc.

What i want to know is the measurement of 1 cube, not from one cube to another

hello mike,
I am an absolute beginner to maya. How do create a cylinder of radius 3cm and height 4cm? It would be really helpful if you answered this query.

Is confusing because for dynamics, those grid units are meters but for lighting, they seem to be cm.

I am a little stupid and keep going to the Maya "HELP" pages. These are mostly useless! You answered everything perfectly in one shot!! Plus, you actually showed me how to get there and what to do.If you are looking to scale something then you will probably want to know how to measure distances at some point. You showed that too. Great job! Also, I did not know Maya was "SCALE SENSITIVE". That was a big eye opener, as I could not figure out why my lighting was so far off. Using centimeters instead of "Feet" might do that!! Now I do everything in feet.

Thank you for this video, I didn't even see that in the Create drop-down, it was one of the tools that didn't exist until you came along. Subbed even though this video is kind of old. Still holds true.

How do you increase the starting size of maya, when you just open maya? My Meshes are so small I have to scale first before I start modelling

How so i make it measure 2 vertexies? I click on my object and the points are placed way off behind it.

Thanks for the tutorial. How do I clear the measurements when done? The measurements didn't seem to match when models are imported into Print Studio(?)

How to hide or delete that measuring tool? Hiding locator itself didn't work.

Clicking on the objects themselves give a measurement from pivot of the first object to the pivot of origin of the second object. so where ever your re trying to measure just the distance between the objects you want to go from vertex to vertex

I tried this method for modelling an object for 3D printing. But it never scales right.
