Hey I know you haven't posted in a year but hopefully you'll see this! Is delta mush used a lot in industry or is it better to know weight painting and more notable than taking the easy way with delta mush?

I feel pretty dumb for spending a whole day trying to skinweight this guy I'm working on properly, delta mush practically did it all in one go. Can't believe I haven't heard of this technique, it's what I get for working on my own I guess.

Also, I'm using Maya 2017, and I found it in the deformers menu instead of the skin menu. It's basically the same thing though, right? Keep up the great videos.

I've literally been contemplating throwing a brick through my screen till I came across this video. Plus I'm too lazy to go find a brick, plus I didn't really want to ruin my laptop. Cheers anyway!

Might be easier to add the breast joints to skin cluster by turning on locked weights in the add influence options box.

Can the Delta Mush deformer or any deformer like the Jiggle Deformer be used in a game engine like Unity?

James, have you used Blender? I learnt modelling in Maya (and you helped me a fair bit if you remember) but have recently switched over to Blender. I can't get over how much better it is (or seems to be; maybe I just don't know how to use Maya that well). It seems that the open source format facilitates faster updating, and of course, it's free. I'm curious as to what a real modelling expert would think and why anyone should ever choose Maya over Blender. The one thing I can give Maya credit for is it's much more user-friendly, but besides that, Blender amazes me every single day.

I have a problem, I spent days on a model, and it won't export, it says I have to delete non deformer history. ……but idk where that is…

Why painting the weights on a duplicate when you could just add influence with locked zero weights and paint on the original?

Hi James. Thank you for these video's. Thanks to the character creation vids I managed to generate a great model to rig for my class. There was just one, unrelated aspect of the character I couldn't figure out however. Ncloth, and how to make fluid clothing for a character model in Maya 2016.

I've been looking for a good video about ncloth and how to get the cloth to attach to a passive collider. I had a female model I animated and decided to put her in a skirt while she danced. Couldn't get the cloth to attach to her hips and had to go with a model of a skirt that distorted with the rigging.

Since then I've found a way to attach ncloth to a pole, but since I can't find a good 2016 nCloth turorial, is this something you know enough about to make a how to vid?

You voice is amazing. This tutorial is easy to follow and saves me so much time that I used to spend weight painting and then re-weight painting when I wanted to change something. Thanks!

Nice Tutorial. You can have "Weight Locking" turned on in the add influences options so your weights remain unchanged. Then you would not need to duplicate and copy weights to preserve the weights.

    Hey James,

Sorry to mix up your thread…just had a question on Maya (mel scripts).

I am still old school using Maya 2008, Id like to convert to Maya 2015. Do you know if Maya 2008 Mel scripts will work or can be converted to work with Maya 2015?

I have a bunch of 2008 scripts that are critical to my workflow.

Really appreciate your input, thanks James! 👍🏼👍🏼

Dear James, thank you for the video, it was a great improvment to my workflow. But after I was done and exported my Animation to Unreal Engine 4, the Delta Mush Effect disappeared. I did some research on this issue and found out, that unreal engine 4 doesn't support delta mush. Does that really mean all the work I put into my skinning with delta mush was worthless and I have to skin my model again without it, or do you know of a secret methode to export delta mush?
thanks in advance for your answer.
