This is the first look into character rigging. Rigging is such a wide area, so these tutorials are going to be uploaded in parts. The first part is:
– Setting up the skeleton.
The next tutorial will be comming soon. In the next tutorial we will be looking at how to setup the leg.
I hope you enjoy this tutorial. Let me know what you think about it, or if you have any subject you want me to look at let me know, by writing a comment.

whats the name of the intro track? pretty catchy…
Cool man ! I also have to create a rig for a given character, i really wasn't following the lessons well so i have to get up with this, i have 12 days left now, hope i can make it, still need to learn alot during this process, any tips or so about not getting stuck or ruin my rig ?
noob delete this so called tutorial
That toe tap should have a max at the ground so it doesn't go through the ground. It also help become more realistic since we can't bend the top of our foot downwards like that normally. I guess I can just stick to the book.
please give me your link to download model…. please please please poly face
hey i cant download the model from the site can u tell me where else can i download please the model is just too awesome to be left
+d rexius You have to create a controler wich will control the scale of your rig, all components of the rig will have to be controled by this one with a parent link (ctrl+P)
Then create a new node in the channel box of the scale controler wich will be called "GlobalScale" for exemple. The value max can be what you want, the default value have to be 1 and the minimal value have to be 0 (otherwise the normals will be inverted if you scale your rig under 0), and connect Scale X Y and Z with the connection editor to this node.
I recently created a skeleton with character controllers but it is hard because the character is too big. How can I resize the bones, the controller and the model
hey man!! Recently was working on some new rig techniques….and these one is epic..>Thanks maan
Are you danish, ? Your english sounds bit like the 'danish style'
thank for this awesome tutorial . It's easy to understand for newbie like me ^^.
Sounds more like an accent than tone to me.
Your voice isn't depressing, I find it very instructing and professional! I was wondering though, how much time does it take for you to rig a character like this? And how long for the modeling part?
Vänliga hälsningar från Sverige! 🙂
you can select the group or make a group, by selecting all the objects and pressing ctl + G. This group you can scale or do whatever you want with 🙂
Hey man, great tutorial. Can't wait to watch all parts. A little question though, how do I scale down the model? I imported it into maya and its huge! The Scale tool doesn't fix it, as the parts scale independently from each other. Perhaps I could make the grid bigger instead? haha. Thanks
I'm a student too, I need to make a biped model and rig in 5 days including zbrush sculpt. I haven't done much rigging before..
I've watched a number of your videos and I like your voice! I don't find it boring or depressing at all, you also make some rather hilarious comments sometimes! Thanks for making these videos, they've been a great help to me!
Intro beats are tight. What is it. I want the whole thing.
your voice is fine btw.
rape a character xD kiddin man
nice tutorial 🙂
@XeroTehGreat Really constructive comment, thanks a lot 🙂 Im glad you could use it.
@dpombo160 Changing his tone adds nothing to the info we're getting, this isn't hallway smalltalk. We're here to learn. I'd rather have him be comfortable making these videos than to have some fake happyface actor teaching me. Also, crying about something as trivial as that makes YOU seem "annoying and unprofessional".
As for the video itself, the pronounciation's kind of hard to get at times but it's understandable and it didn't slow me down one bit. Great job.
you sound danish, am i correct?:p
@dpombo160 it is just the way danish people speak. watch our minister of foreign interests: /watch?v=CTozrTpxldM
