My plan was to go out and do some wildlife photography on a beautiful day with perfect conditions. I found a grey heron and a cormorant. But sadly did not got as close as I wanted. But I also wanted to show you a hot tip in lightroom. A secret tool I use a lot to smooth out dark areas in the background. Hopefully it will be helpful in your editing prosess.

Brilliant Trond. I have just used it to remove a blurred twig across the corner of one of my images. However instead of the brush I used the graduated filter.
I always feel guilty trying to go too close and making them fly off…how do you deal with it and what is an ethical way of getting the shot or abandon it for the sake of the birds wellbeing?…Thanks for the dehaze tip…I didn't realize that it can also be used in the brush tool, I was using it for global adjustments only…
Great tip. Thanks for sharing.
Those mergansers are hard to photograph as well!
A great video and yes I enjoyed it 🙂 Living in the city I find Heron on the canals are very used to noise and people .In the quieter parts and Berlin has many they can be skittish ……Thanks a lot 🙂
Really nice tip, I’ve never thought to use it like that before!
Herons and egrets are soooo twitchy. They will see you from miles away! Thanks for the dehaze tip 👍🏻
Nice editing tip!
Very honest
Awesome Lightroom tip! I never really thought to use the dehaze tool like that, but in some situations it's quite useful and reasonably non-invasive. I tried it on some older photos and it works wonders!
Come to Florida, that big bird will pick your pocket.
Good tip, thanks
I regularly manage to shoot Great blue herons, Black crowned night herons, Green herons all with a hand held 100-400 lens. They've not been too bad for me here in Toronto. Move slow, no fast hand movements. I just wish I had a super tele. All our herons are gone south now.
I love using dehaze! But thanks to you I have a new tool in my bag 🙂
Good tip for lightroom, have used the dehaze tool but not with the brush ,every day is a school day👍
Useful information 😊
I left photoshop/lightroom many years ago, best thing I ever did. I use DXOPhotolab4 and Affinity Photo.
Question, so when I use the dehaze brush as you did it’s not the color of the background. It’s like a bright color. So how to you get it to be the same color as the background?
Another great video trond, looking forward to the next one
I have those Comarants often and they are a bit tricky to photograph when they dive. I try to watch for air bubbles by they are tricky to get a short of when they come up with their catch. The male and female Mallards are great when the green lights up.
Thanks so much that’s a great tip! And thanks so much for your You tube content, it’s so inspiring. 👍
Hey Trond, I can't tell you how many times I have scared of something by making some sort of noise. One little cracking sound and it's all over! Great tip about the dehaze tool…. I don't use LR but I think Premiere Elements (which I use) has it. I will give it a try! As always… Sayin' hey…. Greg
