Panning is a simple technique to learn but takes plenty of practice to master. Moving subjects such as cars and bikes makes excellent panning photos and in this video Gavin Hoey gives you some simple hints and tips to get you started.
A few drops of rain can completely transform your photos but as Gavin discovered it doesn’t stop the cyclists of Amsterdam.
After the shoot follow Gavin into Photoshop where he has a couple of tips for dealing with distracting colours in the background of a photo.

Professor Good Morning
Great video – learned a lot. That said, I guess I'm the only one who much prefers the original photo with the touches of yellow, red, and blue in the background.
Did you switch off Image Stabilization in the panning shots?
Thankyou fromthailand
Gavin – you're amazing! Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about your videographer, as your face is so dark in the opening sequence that we cannot see it properly…!!!
