Download the project file and pattern (PSD) here https://goo.gl/7a3zNj

Step 1: Create Two Folders.
One folder for the source images (you can name it “source”) and another one for the resized images (name it “resized”).

Step 2: Copy 100 Images Into the “Source” Folder.

Step 3: Open An Image.
Now launch Photoshop and open an image in the “source” folder. Choose File-Open or else just press Ctrl+O to Open up your image in Adobe Photoshop.

Step 4: Create an Action to Resize Images.
Select Windows-Actions or else just press Alt+F9 to open the Action panel. Click Create new Action icon in the Action panel. Named the Action “Mosaic-resize”, set to Default Actions then click the Record button. The Begin Recording button in the Actions panel turns red.

Step 5: Perform the operations to resize the image.
Choose Image- Image Size or else just press Alt+Ctrl+I. Enter the following information: Width 1 cm, Height 1 cm, Resolution 200 px, tick Resample Image, select Bicubic Sharper. Click OK. Stop recording by clicking the Stop Playing/Recording button or else just press the Esc key. Close the image, no need to save the resized result.

Step 6: Start Resize All Images.
Choose File-Scripts-Image Processor. Select the images to process in folder “source”, select the location to save processed images in folder “resized”, tick the Save as JPEG checkbox, tick the Resize to fit checkbox, enter 79px for W and H value, tick the Run Action checkbox, choose Default Actions and Mosaic-resize. Click the Run button. Wait for a moment until all of your images resized.

Step 7: Create a Contact Sheet For the Mosaic Pattern.
Select File-Automate-Contact Sheet II. Select the images to process in folder “resized”, unit: pixels, width: 790, height: 790, resolution 200 pixels/inch, place: across first, column: 10, rows: 10, and tick the ‘Rotate for best fit’ checkbox. Click OK. Wait for a moment until Photoshop finishes creating your Contact Sheet.

Step 8: Define Pattern for Mosaic.
Choose Edit- Define Pattern. Name it like ‘Mosaic-Pattern’. Click the OK button. Now you can save and close your Contact Sheet document.

Step 9: Open Your Main Image and Create a New Layer.
Choose File-Open or else just press Ctrl+O to Open up your main image in Photoshop. Click the Open button. Create a new layer to fill with our mosaic pattern by choosing Layer-New-Layer or else just press Shift+Ctrl+N. Leave the default settings and click OK.

Step 10: Fill the New Layer with the Mosaic Pattern.
Select the new layer (Layer 1) on the Layers panel and then choose Edit- Fill. Select Pattern in Use drop-down menu. In the Custom Pattern, choose the mosaic pattern that we previously created. Click the OK button.

Step 11: Desaturate, change the Blend Mode and Opacity.
Desaturate Layer 1 by choosing Image- Adjustments- Desaturate or else just press Shift+Ctrl+U. Change its blend mode to Overlay by going to the drop-down menu in the Layers panel. Adjust its opacity if necessary.

when creating the contact sheet, the images come with the file name as well and i cant find an option to turn that off. i have to delete the texts separately but it still creates a gap between the images. how can i resolve this?

this helps. Thanks. Was a bit confused because there were so much space between the pictures in contact sheet. Did a little research on google and i found out that you have to resize every pictures to become unisize (im sorry i dont know if this's the right term) to get rid of the space.
