Photographer Spends Hours Preparing Secret Engagement Photoshoot, Ends Up Shooting the Wrong Couple

An unnamed man living in Wisconsin hired a photographer to catch his sunset mountaintop proposal, but all did not go to plan.

Jacob Peters, an Arkansas-based photographer, woke at 2.30 a.m. the day of the shoot, in order to beat the couple to the spot they would later be engaged. He hiked up Hawk’s Bill Crag, a scenic cliff overlooking the Ozark National Forest.

Peters set up his equipment and prepared for the arrival of the pair. Sure enough, shortly after 6 a.m. as planned, a couple arrived. Thankfully the woman said yes, as Peters snapped away in the distance. All seemed to have gone to plan — that was, until Peters texted his client to congratulate him. It wasn’t until the response came back, and his client apologized for being over an hour late, that Peters realized he had photographed an entirely different couple.

“Basically I spent six and a half hours, $40 in gas and food, 450 photos, and took the wrong couple’s photos,” Peters wrote on Facebook. After a Facebook campaign, Peters was able to track down the mystery couple in his photos. It’s said he didn’t charge either couple for the mix-up, and sent the “wrong” couple the right photos of their milestone moment.

You can see more of Peters’ work at his Facebook page. He had initially set up a GoFundMe page in order to travel back to Wisconsin and rectify the situation by taking more photos for the couple, but ultimately canceled it.
