Landscape photography is done with a wide lens – not a Long Lens!
Why? I suggest Landscape photography can be done with any lens that will give the photographer the look they want to achieve.
Don’t get stuck by ‘rules’. Learn to think like a photographer and be creative.

Very funny how things work out. I was out at sunset tonight doing landscape shots with the 70-200 & get home to the email with the link for this video. A long lens works brilliantly in this situation.
(Alan) ……….So true. The best camera lens combination is the one you have with you.
Very helpful Mike. Thank you.
love this, so informative!
Fantastic..! The best I learn a lot.
those cliffs & peeks alone are gorgeous! love the 24mm shot.
good tip about separation of the elements regarding composition. If you’re further away from the boat you could use a higher f-stop to get everything in focus at a longer focal length.
sorry I would like to have seen the other shot with a wide aperture. Try to compare like with like
Great tutorial. Thanks!
Lovely shots.
Thank You So much….I badly needed this
be ready for opportunistic shots….yup, lol….I do that ALL THE TIME. Good tip!!
Good information, Mike. I've always tried to get sharp focus front to back in landscape shots, but you showed me how that emphasis on the foreground sharpness looks great even as the background begins to blur. Thanks.
Thanks for the great videos Mike
Pentax K-1 with Pentax DFA* 2.8/70-200 AW. Epic for landscape. Not so much for anything that moves however.
I.S.O. international standard organization…NOT ISO ignorancesoundingoff.
“Let’s shoot a landscape in portrait “
I love it
Interesting video Mike, Thanks
How did you measure the depth of field for the 105mm lens accurately and quickly
I use for landscape and everything eslse 60mm & 105mm macro lenses…
The huge difference it can make in composition taking one or two steps left or right, forward or backwards and picking the right focal lenght
Brilliant
Must have watched this video about 10 times! Definitely one of my favourites of yours Mike and one of my biggest inspirations to get into photography and vlogging! Love your creativity and enthusiasm!
1:40 daenerys will surely love you sir davos
Cheers again Mike for another great video. Nikon 40 year old 300mm f4.5 ai-s manual focus just arrived today for my XT1/ via adapter, looking forward to trying it out, no handheld for this fella me-thinks.
Great video. You put things in such simple terms that even I can understand them. Also, what a great location!
Another great video Mike! I have just purchase a used canon 70-200mm f4 lens so the tips you gave on using a long lens for landscapes will help me immensely. Love your videos, keep up the great work!
Great photos, my favourite was at 4.20

4:19 Nice shot!
The only person show that…
You really surprise me mike as i would not use a wide angle either for landscape i prefer a telephoto as its more creative
Mike, you are the best teacher on YouTube! A true savant
How do you manage to get so much depth of colour i.e. intensity and vinrancy of colour ??
I love all your videos, thanks so much 👌🏻
As always, great video. Was out shooting today trying to use some of the thoughts here
Just found your channel. Like it.
lol 🙂 informative!
Just found your channel and really enjoying all your videos. This one hits home because I just did a road trip through southwestern US (Death Valley etc) and all I had was a telephoto lens (55-300 on a crop sensor). I also had an iPhone, but it was an interesting challenge to get landscape shots (and even close shots like flowers) with the telephoto. Treat the landscape like a person, and it becomes more intimate…
I love both photos. I would honestly love to one of them on my wall!
Love it. I'm so used to shooting with my wide angle's. I just picked up my first telephoto and its so fun experimenting and trying new things.
What is your Facebook page called please? And thanks for the videos here!
