Channels are great for making selections that would otherwise be very difficult to make. Learn how to separate parts of a photo with Photoshop channels. There are three channels — red, green, and blue. When viewed individually, the image will be lighter where the color is more present and darker where it isn’t.

Great application! I have used channels in the past to replace blown out skies in images but I never imagined it could do such a great selection in this image. Thanks… very helpful as always.
hey ,…how u r painting the smoke exactly the back of layer …???
I am just at the beginning of this video but so far I only know your newer videos in which you have longer hair and a beard and everything. You look totally different in this video. ๐

Really great tutorial – I think I can make good use of this in the future. Thanks!
All the best phlearn!! ๐ Happy Birthday!!!
My channels are not in shades of grey like yours??? They have a transparent overlay of red, green, & blue. WHY?? HELP Please.
I have Photoshop 5.1 extended. My channels tab when opened shows the RGB, the Red, the Green, & the Blue… but instead of the red, green, & blue showing different shades of grey for each channel, instead they have a Red transparent Overlay & a Green transparent overlay & a Blue transparent overlay… with the RGB Channel appearing normal. How on earth do I get the shades of grey for each of the 3 color channels? Is there some setting I need to change? Any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED – TY.
WOW! I have read countless tutorials on channels and even read a book on it but I havent come across anyone using this way of making a selection and working with it. Great video.

Amazing tips as always! Thanx! Happy Phlearn Birthday!!!
This is a great explanation dude!
Thanks. I tended not to use the channels cause I thought I could manage doing what I wanted in an easier way, now I'll give it a try. Congrats on the second anniversary. ๐
