In this video, we’ll be taking a look at Blender’s smoke simulation engine, rendered in Cycles. Huge thanks to everyone requesting this tutorial! It was a lot of fun to make. See timestamps below:
*IMPORTANT: Make sure you are in the Cycles Render Engine before adding the Quick Smoke effect. This will automatically set up the smoke material.
0:08 – Quick Smoke
2:06 – Animating the emitter
4:21 – Camera and lighting
9:26 – Rendering and exporting
12:17 – Post production in After Effects

Why can't I see the smoke in the rendered view?
My smoke in the final render seems all blurred. Does anyone knows why? I also tried to set the focal lens but nothin seems change
Latest version render is black you skipped how you made the materials for the smoke that's where everything seems to go wrong for the rendering results. Could you do a separate video on how you enhanced your color choices and should we be in render cycles before we hit quick smoke ?
how were you able to get the color changes with the smoke?
Wow amazing tutorial,
it really helped me!
Have a problem. I can create smoke? but when I render it I see the domain, cube.
what could cause the smoke to be rendered without the color? what did i miss or did something change? i am using 2.79. the preview works colored by the renderer just creates grey smoke
YOU ARE AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome school project! Really helped me out man, A+
Great !
Really helpful, thanks very much!
Hello lotsalote!
Just did this tutorial from the beginning in Cycles and everything goes well and in render view it show me my smoke and i even render it in low quality to look how's it.
After i bake my simulation… Now i can't see what's happened, because i see only BLACK CUBE (smoke domain) and when i start render it just a black cube…
Maybe you know why?
if you're doing a tutorial on something like smoke simulation, don't waste any time on explaning the viewers how to do some basic blender operations regarding the user interface.
The average viewers will most likely know how to move or rotate an object and how to snap rotation properties or how to create keyframes.
Don't waste any time on explaining how to setup lights, because 1stly, the way you did it is super easy, so there's no explanation required
and 2ndly, because there's a lot that can be done with lighting in blender, information like this can be included in a dedicated video.
You could've spent more time on the smoke tool itself, going a little bit into detail about the basics and most usefull functions.
An excellent tutorial, clear, concise, and well demonstrated.
Is i5 processor okay to use blender software??
Holy shit guy please do more tutorials on this subject. Trying to get better with lighting and molding smoke into shapes. Your explanations are of exceptional quality. Thanks so much!
Am I too late to comment for your school project and say how amazing that is? Haha
in rendered vision with cycles I see only a box, but in blender render i can see the smoke. Anyone knows where's the problem?
color of smoke doesn't appear in blender 2.79 with cycles render active at the begining of the scene. The smoke it's just grey ! Need to add a material or something like that ? look : https://www.casimages.com/i/180821075852368850.png.html
1st of all great video. Pretty educational. 2. how do i add the keyboard on the corner? lol
Oh my videocard is…. Render is very low… 😔😖
Thank you!
awesome tutorial!! how long was the render time and what type of cpu are you running?
Now to know how apple make the wallpapers for their macbooks and iMacs
