the result of the alpha in maya 2018 looks a bunch different than the one in the video (by 17min)
some weird alpha glitch, it shows up in dx11 and opengl, not sure if you've come across it before or know reasons why it does that? the color looks proper, just once alpha is on, it has weird artifacts showing up on the models
