Landscape photography brings with it a lot of challenges, but the scenes and way you can render them are nearly limitless. This fantastic video tutorial goes behind the scenes of photographing a castle in the hills and shows the photographer’s process and thoughts behind his creative decision.

One thing that I really appreciated was Mackie’s discussion of the preparation that went into the photo and how it took multiple attempts to get exactly what he wanted. One of the most frustrating things about landscape work is the fact that you are at the mercy of the elements when it comes to the light, clouds, fog, and more. Planning ahead can make a big difference in your ability to get what you want, but there will always be times when nature simply does not want to cooperate. Being willing to revisit a location until you get the image you are after can make a big difference. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Mackie.
