A look at a common cognitive bias that makes people think they’re better at things than they are, and how you can avoid succumbing to this psychological trap.

If you think your friends photographs are bad you’re not his/her friend
Probably one of the best videos I've watched this year which can be applied to everything and not just photography. Well done Mr….Now to apply that to my life as always 😀 #Lane

01:23 I tip my hat for poor Mr. Wheeler – some idiots out there got no plans at all, robbing a bank. BTW: If properly equipped, the risks can be minimized, ha, ha..
This can also be referred to everything in life.
Thank you mate
I don’t think that you should just forget about your past work completley, you can always look back at it and use it to see how much you’ve progressed. You can even go back and re edit some old photos and get a good turn out because you never know by taking what you know now back to when you didn’t
Solid advice, thanks for the motivation man!
everyone can be a photographer, but not everyone is a great photographer. because an individual's skills/talent are greater than others who are beginning, it does not put them highly above them. it is important to not discourage beginner photographers because out of a “bad” picture can come great art.
I think my best work is pretty good until I see the best work of real photographers. This is good because it makes me want to go out and practice and improve
Who sets the parameters of good and bad ?
Creativity has no boundaries, creativity is beyond good or bad.
I think you are wonderful
Thanks for the sound piece of advice Jamie.. I really needed to hear this. Especially the last bit- get out of your comfort zone, 🙌
Awesome video. Love the advice
Why you care so much..good or bad or are you jelous or something
I literally just created my photography account on Instagram @zeromobilephotog after watching this I don't think I want to pursue on posting there. Lmao
Came here to learn how to get better with photography. Left with an understanding of why my 3D animations suck and what I can do to make them better for my career path. Also, my photography.
Wonderful unintended pun: "Understanding where you need to focus". Priceless!! But pretty good advice nevertheless.
Kudos to Jamie for actually reading up on what the Dunning-Kruger effect is (and isn’t). I see and hear it thrown around so poorly it makes me annoyed, so this was such a refreshing thing to see! Good job!
Bad photographers usually have the latest and most expensive cameras.
The most awarded news and features photographer in Australia, who could ask for any camera gear he dreamed of, uses a battered Nikon D5 with a interface door missing, and the venerable 24-70 2.8 which has a jamming focus ring. Thats it. Asked recently after covering the Australian wildfires, he said its too much camera for him and is going to get a Sony a6400 and the kit 16-50. He submits his jpeg images via tethered mobile phone, downsized to 12mp. "The office can dick around and make them better, but usually they don't bother."
The most awarded landscape photographer in the UK shoots micro 4/3 and gave up photoshop/lightroom for photolemur for easy workflow.
Its not the gear, but the content. 99% of photographes would not have a hope of commercialising their work because its not remarkable.
This video reaffirms my feelings as a new guy to photography….yeah I’m not very good 😂 ….. yet
I don't compare my work with anyone. Not saying I'm good or bad. I just think we all have our own style and twist. Don't @ me!
We live in a world were people are not told they suck by others, so hard for people to understand that you only get better by others informing you of the truth. We have been informed not to offend. Just spend some time around Simon Cowell LOL! It could take you 20 years to really understand photography and then you will still go onto finding more stuff! For me there are just some people who need to put the camera down and walk away. They are not bad photographers they are just not photographers. . . Thanks Jamie for the video and why did the guy not look into a mirror before leaving to do the bank job?
gems! knowledge is power great vid!
gems! knowledge is power great vid!
great tips thanks… but in my opinion the problem can be that as a random photography like me i dont think so that any expert photographer would be willing to even comment on what shots i take … like getting attention of a good photographer is almost impossible and then get his comment is more bigger thing
I’m very new to photography and the comment section is scaring me 🙁 I’ll just keep to myself then
As I sit here and watch this, as a beginner photographer, all I can think is who is this guy? I’ve never heard of him. Lightroom presets: check. Lots of YouTube subscribers: check. IG link: check. Any notable photographs as in any major publication, advertising, etc etc. Nope. Moving along.
Man, you look sick. Get better, world needs ppl like you.
