Maya Tutorial – Creating Dynamic Hair Driven Joint Chains HD by https://www.3dmotive.com
In this lesson, I’m going to be showing you how to use a dynamic hair curve and the IK Spline Handle Tool in Maya to create a series of joint chains that drive a curtain mesh. This technique also works well for cables, ropes, tails, or any other appendage that is hanging off a character. Enjoy!

How do you bind the curtain to the joints? I tried the regular bind skin, but when I turn on the interatice solver, the joints start floating off lol What did I do wrong?
great tutorial
Hello! is there somewhere a place where you could show how to skinpaint/skinweight this???
This is so great!!!
I’m having an awesome journey into re-learning maya again. Haven’t animated in maya since 2004.
thanks for the tutorial!
why i failed use this tutorial ?
not same !
Great tutorial, but what if your joint chain isn't connected through an SDK? What do I select to move the "base" that it's hanging from to make it swing?
would this be the same for solid objects like for example car keys?
thanks, very helpful, however how do you deal with COLLISIONS with other objects?
great tutorial ! Thanks for uploading. But I think I need to learn more skills to understand this tutorial exactly…
thank you……I think it could be done easier by using Bone tools.
exactly- how does the the rig work? is it like set driven key or sth more advanced?
how do you make those joints change colour?
Amazing tut but you are not showing us the main part of this working. How did you make the RIG? nHair curves on IK handle spine aren't something new! Can you please let me know how did you make the rig?
how can i make natural collision with other objects after using dynamic joint hair?
Thanks for the tutorial!!! Can you explain how to make the joint chain and how to link it to the plane/solid and make the slider to move the curtain?
Hi ! your tutorials helped me a lot! can you maybe do something about fabric texture in Maya, can't seem to find what i want, this work drives me insane http://cgimg.s3.amazonaws.com/t/g30/557230/1249948_large.jpg
nice, could totally use this to make floppy ears.
nice
i'm going to sound like loser but you have to learn 3d meshing for Seconedlife if you wanna make objects mesh rigging its pain the ass.
what about mesh fur or hair? me and my other half are learning together how make 3d stuff since both really like animals i always have trouble with fur.
