In this Autodesk Maya tutorial I will create two render passes in Maya using Mental Ray. One pass will be a normal render pass and the other will be a Ambient Occlusion pass set up in a separate layer. After both layers are saved I will them combine them into one image using Photoshop

hey Mike please can you do a video how do ambient occlusion in maya 2017 with mentalray?
well done.
thank you
Isn't there a way for Maya to just render the AO with the scene itself? Why do we have to go into Photoshop and do it ourselves?
Hi. How to render animation like that, i mean with Ambient Occlusion ? I guess it would be pretty monotonic way to render and save frame by frame?
You are actually amazing. You ever considered teaching? You have helped me with so many things for my college project, and I will continue to learn from you. Thankyou
my scene turned white with the ambien occlusion layer 😮 what does that mean?? 😮
Thanks for the tutorial. Do you know how you would use the AO render on a game asset?
Btw guys if your renders are showing up really grey; just up your occlusion white colour to above 1
Wow thanks a lot for this man! I can finally make all my renders pretty 😀
thank you for this video +Mike Hermes
i dont have all these options you use
Questions ? When would you use Ambient Occlusion ? Is it just for stills or can you use it in animations or both.
Cheers
Douglas

This is awesome. Are you planning on making a series of tutorials for render passes?
Hi mike i was wondering if it is possible to do a run down of using the TURTLE render to create normal and AO maps for a small asset.
