I think it is better to use Maya style control because Unity, UE4 and so on use this style. It will easier switch between Blender and Untiy for example.

OKAY! i'm not even two minutes into the video and I noticed my set up is different from your set up. at 1:31, you hit "screen cast keys" and hit "start display" but when I went into my "N" and scrolled down, there wasn't even that option in the options. mine stops at the bottom at transform orientation. I have the newest version. 2.79….help?

I'm having a problem splitting the cube and sphere after doing the join, found at 16:30 in the video.
I have followed the video up to this point, my settings and mouse set up are the same.
After deleting the prior objects, I create the cube, move the cube over, deselect, and then create the sphere.
I have tried by having them overlap, as well and not overlap, my result is the same, doing the following.

I then use shift and right click to select each object, I press control + j, I then deselect with "a".
Then I reselect with right click to ensure they are indeed one object. I press "Tab" to switch to edit mode. I press "p" and choose "loose parts".
"Tab" again to get back into object mode.
Make sure nothing is selected with "a", then I right click the sphere and drag, I even attempted this with "g" then "x" to grab and move along the x axis. The result is both moving together.

I got them to separate once by hiding the cube with "h", moved the sphere and alt + h to unhide the cube, the sphere would then allow it to be moved separately but the center point is offset towards the direction the cube was.

Using blender 2.79, Windows 10. Any suggestions?

Wow Blender!! I remember looking at this back in the early 2000's. Good to see it's still being developed and going strong.
Before I concider installing it, I'd like to know if a pen tablet can be used with it. have an Intuos 5, a bit old now I know but still a good bit of kit – was using it sucessfully with C4D.

Thanks for putting on another great and fun tut serise Derek.
