Blender 3D Castle Animation

I had recently read my daughter a book called “The Sword in the Cone.” Looking for an excuse to practice my Blender3D skills, I offered to re-create a castle that some characters in the book build out of wooden blocks. The original toy castle took about 15 minutes to build, but then… well, see for yourself.

  1. dacntl, certainly it took several years of intermittent work, during my free time, to get this comfortable with the software. But now YouTube is bristling with tutorials, so the learning process would be faster.

  2. Actually, there's a triangular patch of different-colored grass on the ground in front of the barrel. That whole area is in shadow, so there is no light source to cast a shadow. I agree that it does, however, look exactly like a shadow when you first see it.

I've learned a lot about Blender since I made this video, and there are many things I would do differently now, if I were to do it over!

  3. Like is says in the video, I spent far too much time on it, tweaking it and, when searching for just the right textures for the grass and getting the banners to flap just right, mostly learning through trial and error.

But there are lots of excellent tutorial videos online. Take it slow, and expand as your time and inspiration permits you.
