This Blender video demonstrates how to make Ice text using the cycles render engine. Blender’s fluid simulator is used during this video. Blender version 2.64 was used for this tutorial. This is a good tutorial for beginners.

If you are using a long string of characters and your text looks like a blob, then the following instructions may help.
1) When you add the bevel to the text, use a value of 0.02 instead of 0.05. (video location 2:40).
2) After adding the bevel to the text, use a Resolution value of 0 instead of 7. (video location 3:07).
3) When you set the fluid resolution use a value 200 instead of 100. A value of 150 will work also but 200 should work better. (video location 8:50). Remember, however, that the larger this number is the larger the required memory is.

Is there a reason that the tutorial works fine on the text ICE but when using the text SEASONS GREETINGS and when changing the container box physics to domain the liquid text created is nothing like SEASONS GREETINGS and is ICE when text is ICE?

If using more letters than "I C E" up your resolution proportionally.

    VERY GOOD TUTORIAL

This has to be, by and far, one of the best beginner tutorial compositions I've come across to date. The narration is clear, concise, well paced, and at an comfortable listening level. No mumbling or use of meaningless "fill words" in the narration. The viewer is given enough time to "pause and try" each operation, which leads to comprehending what's happening, whereas most others I've looked at, "assume" way too much previous Blender experience and the poor viewer, lacking printed text as an guide, gets lost quickly, what with all the flying mouse pointers, innumerable "alternatives" constantly being mentioned, and mysterious keyboard shortcuts taking place, without a word as to "why?". Here, all mouse and keyboard shortcuts are limited in number, clearly explained and demonstrated. I had no problems following along, switching back & forth between Compiz screens while viewing, and then trying, each step.
I've had Blender for about 5-years now (continually updating it as new versions came out), and this video is the first tutorial I've come across that led me through an project that I was actually able to finish. I've tried so many others and they all left me with an horrible mess and a bucket full of frustration, wondering how anyone is able to do anything with this program.
In my experience, the test of one's competence in any field is measured by their ability to successfully teach it to others. This tutorial should be held-up as an example of how to do it right; an prerequisite for anyone wanting to produce an tutorial.
Personally, I suspect the people who disliked the presentation did so because it put them to shame. For me, you've just helped me turn Blender into an useful tool instead of yet another program just taking up space on my hard drive. Thank you.

You're such an excellent teacher! Nothing more discouraging when you click on a video, only to see it's just someone showing off, without explaining a thing! I wonder if you've ever worked with games or game mods? Skyrim, Fallout, etc.

I think your videos are fantastic. Step by step and nothing is assumed that a person should know. I am new to blender and found it easier to follow then cinema 4D. I can't thank you enough for making these tutorials easy to follow.

This tutorial is pretty old, but I just followed it along (on version 2.79 in 2017), and I got the same result <3
At least, I understood a little bit of how it works, and learned the basics.

Certainly, I will continue, learning from your tutorials!

I already learned the basics of Blender from another tutorial made by Jacob Lewis, it's very easy to follow if you pay close attention to what you're doing.
