i use 2.65 and there is no background load button
my blender is to glitchy and wont work!

Nice tute man, although I would probably focus more on the modelling, rather then creating a fully finished/textured model half assed 😛 Especially if you aren't using voice. But nevertheless, good effort 😉

Press N. Click the background image box then the arrow next to the checked box. The next step is to then go to where you saved the picture, press open. To get the picture to show up you will have to go to the bottom left of the page, select view and choose persp/ortho. Next you will need to click view then either left, right, front or back (doesn't matter as long as you have a cube). If this didn't work sorry, it worked for me. Message me if I have confused you or you need more help.

Says 6 months ago, so i'm sure you figured it by now, but for other users, you have to be in Front Orthographic View.
go to view – ortho-perspective – front. it should work

Get into orthographic view.
And make sure that it's like left, right, top, bottom views and not user ortho view.
you have to use an ortographic view to make the background picture display. on perspektive views the background image doesnt show up..
use 5 on the numpad to switch the viewmodes 🙂 have fun!
i loaded a background image but it doesn't appear in the screen like yours
i use 2.63 and when i load the background image it doesn't load
i luv blender, its a lil hard, but pays off.
