This is a complete tutorial series explaining the creation of a realistic human portrait with Blender. The entire process will be covered from base mesh modeling, detail sculpting, texture painting, hair growing and styling, sub-surface scatter shading, and compositing. Some of the more time-consuming tasks will be time-lapses with commentary like modeling, sculpting, and texture painting; the other parts will be mostly real-time.

Part 1 explains a more artistic approach to generating a base mesh instead of traditional box modeling techniques. It’s a hybrid method incorporating both modeling and sculpting. We’ll start by sculpting our basic forms and volumes, then retopologizing a usable facial topology that will serve as an excellent base for sculpting our high-frequency detail.

  1. I find it inspiring and at a certain point the model has so much character its like a pathologist is reshaping a body for presentation. Its even a bit creepy. No not a tutorial in a way, but inspiring and thank you for giving an insight in your workflow and your way of creating. I love it when artists share their secrets and knowledge, even if its not explained in a paint by numbers style, still highly informative and tickles my fantasygland enough to go and try out his style.

  2. How are you using Perspective view and not going inside of the mesh on closeups? Also, when I use the knife tool, it doesnt automatically insert the diagonal edges like it does in yours. Is there a setting I can change to make that happen?

  3. Can u go go back to the part where it says "i may be good at what i do but have no idea how to teach!!!"""…do u honestly think that for someone to learn they understand the breakneck speed u were talking at????

  4. waw can WE make games use this program ? because WE can't wait games out let with survey and errors and pc requirements dosnt work with our pc and difficult shit. That's why asking again can WE make games use this program ? to make COMBOS.

  5. i would strongly suggest cg cookie as they are very good tutorial makers and i understand you dont wanna pay for it budt you learn a lot on cg cookie that you wouldnt learn on yt like skin modifier

  6. I'm sorry i didn't quite get what you did around 00:54 first when you used the Ctrl+Alt+Numpads , and what did you do when you turned the Cube into a more subdivided and filleted one ?

The thing is as i proceed beyond this point when i use the grab in sculpt mode it doesn't work the same way it does with you, or at least it doesn't look like it, cause with me it looks more like straight cut faces while with you it started looking more smooth ? or clay like , i'm afraid i missed smth , could you please help 😀 ?

  7. Damn, I remember trying to watch this tutorial about a year ago as a noob, thinking that I could overkill this, how foolish I was. I eventually gave up because I simply could not follow. This isn't a beginners tutorial, if your just starting out in blender try to learn the fundamentals first and come back to this when you think your ready. You will also need a graphics tablet like wacom(makes life easier).

Returning after learning more about cg art and the terminologies that go along with it, I'm taking in a lot more knowledge than I expected…
