How to Compose Woodland Photographs

Whereas most landscape photos involve vast, sweeping scenes, woodland photography is an interesting change of pace that challenges you to create compelling imagery in densely packed spaces full of competing elements. This excellent video discusses the challenges of woodland photography and offers some helpful tips for creating better compositions.

Coming to you from Simon Baxter, this great video discusses how to create better woodland photo compositions. One of the prime challenges of landscape photography has always been that unlike most other genres, you have no control over the presence and placement of elements in the scene. And in woodland photography, that challenge can become even tougher given the density and intricacy of forests, requiring extra care in crafting your compositions. Unlike most landscape photos, this is a time when you might want to consider a shallower depth of field. Given the complexity of the scene, this will often allow you to deal with busier and more distracting scenes and help guide your viewer’s eye toward the subject. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Baxter.
