  1. ok… I have been studying and watching both of your photography accounts and what can I say….. I want to just take pictures all day! I did a photo class in 1988… black room and all. Now, things are totally different. If I were to take pictures for a coffee shop…. how do you give them back to the client? RAW, JPEG, PNG,etc? I am a bit technologically challenged (age) and the other question I have, any suggestions for a simpler photoshop application other than Adobe Photoshop? I want to start from the basics of manipulating photos. Love photography since college, fell in love with what the camera can do and what it captures. Thanks for your time and looking forward to doing something with this super creative area.

  2. 10 years ago I used to earn a regular $2,000 a month from stock photography. I still licence photos every week, but the over-saturation of the market and the digital disruption of micro-stock agencies has seen that income dwindle by 90%. I joined an agency 20 years ago that had a library of less than 1 million photos. They now have over 200 million. Prices have dwindled accordingly. A decade ago, I made my highest ever stock sale: $9,200 for a one month licence for multiple use including billboard. Sales like that are unheard of these days. Back then my average licence would return about $140. Today that number is $22. Four months ago The Guardian (the UK based international news publication) licensed one of my photos from an agent. They paid $5. My share after commission $2.50. Realistically stock photography is no longer a viable option. It's really not worth the time and effort.

Another thing to bear in mind in relation to all this optimistic advice, is that no matter which way you cut it, your operating costs (overheads) are going to absorb 50% of whatever you ask/charge. If you don't believe me, ask an accountant.
