I have always wanted to take a good picture of the moon. Just recently got a good deal on a Nikon D5600 18-55/70-300. Just watched this video and by chance it is a full moon tonight…..WOW!!! Hi Paul, or should I say "Hey Mate!"? This lesson was *awesome*!!! I used a Canon T6i (EOS 750D) tonight and got some decent shots. Better than any I have taken in the past. My question goes to manual focus. According to the web page I use to find moon rise/set times, azimuth/elevation, etc. the moon on this night was 252,473 miles away. Spin the focus ring all the way out and it should be good right? Nope! I had to bring it back in a smidgen to get a nice clear image. I used a Canon ES 75-300 zoom lens. Is this just a function of the complexity of the zoom lens or is something else at work I have no clue about? BTW I've watched many of your tutorials and have yet to find one that wasn't of great value to me. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and making learning pleasant.

Brilliant video, can't wait to try it out. One question though, when in live mode and you press the + button to use the digital zoom, you then reach round to focus on the subject to get it pin sharp. At this point does it matter where the zoom is positioned? I've got a Nikon 55-200 lens.

I know you mentioned min of 200mm, but I have a single 18-135mm lens. I am trying the settings:
A 5.6-11 and
SS 125-250
ISO 100
but results aren't that good.
This is probably because of the lens, but still any setting recommendations?
If I use my 70-300mm lens and use the 300mm can I use a 2x teleconverter too?

When taking pictures of the moon, is it better to let the camera acclimate itself to the outside temperature before shooting? Would you do this to help prevent the lenses from fogging up?

Excellent video sir. I've been using my Canon EOS 750 with my Meade SCT at prime focus and at 1/125 sec on the M setting, and the images weren't very sharp. Your video is excellently detailed and after watching it I'm sure I can get better images next time! Many thanks for posting.

Great video. I’m here because I just shot the 11-20-21 eclipse and was shocked by how counter intuitive night photos were. So it’s great to hear this all from a expert.
I would suggest adding one thing to your checklist though. Shut the auto white balance off.
Thanks for putting all the work into this very useful video.
Autofocus on the edge with center focus point, spot metering, hold button halfway, move lens to center of object. Use stabilization, f5.6, auto iso and at least 1/400 sec. with a 400mm lens. Since it's a bright white spot really no need for a tripod since you'll shoot at such high speed, never used one for moon shots and it's a just a flat spot in the sky so 5.6 is fine, there is no depth to it anyway.
What a absolute great video… he actually made my lazy ass stand up to go take a picture of the moon 😀 BUT in the end, the result was perfect and I stared at the finished photo for 30 mins… you're also a very good at explaining how to do it step by step, so 10/10 for this video.
