Some Simple Steps to Planning and Photographing a Great Image

Code Canyon

Has it been a while since you got back to your photography roots with a creative shoot just for you? Sometimes, we need to hang up the business hat and get back to what makes us feel happy and creative. Here’s some inspiration.

If you do anything photography-related as a business, whether part-time or full-time, sometimes it can feel like your creative passions sort of get buried under all of the commitments and deadlines. Every now and then, it’s good to go back and explore why you started photography in the first place. What better way to do that than to dream up and design a shoot entirely just for you.

In this video from The Slanted Lens, Jay P. Morgan does just that, by picking up a camera and a model and heading out into some California wildflowers for a shoot. Lucky for us, Jay can’t quite put down his instructor hat, so he walks us through his planning system, sharing with us from start to finish how he goes from idea to reality.

Jay takes us through his design and thought process, as he sketches out his concept and puts it all into action. Location, color palette, model, and lighting are all considered. He presents some really good points and good steps to follow and a few pretty cool tips and tricks that will be beneficial to anyone’s workflow.

When was the last time you created a photoshoot completely for yourself? Share your experiences in the comments.
