I am very frustrated because I would like to take pictures like this, but my camera does no seem to have a way to set the shutter speed longer than 1 second. I have a Nikon D40. Do you happen to know if there is something I am missing in the settings? Or does this camera just not function that well? Thank you.

Where can i get a sparkler?
This is great, i thought all body movements made while using the sparkler would mess up the image because of the blur created from moving your whole body or arm. Turned out to not be so bad.
When you take those kind of photos in a high light environment,, you ll look blurry,, it's recommended to take it in complete dark, and if you want to be shown in the photo, then use a high speed flash.
